Praise the Lord!
Give thanks to the Lord! For He is good!
Rejoice always!
This was one of those weeks where it comes easy to follow these commands from Scripture!
On Thanksgiving, knowing the day would be busy and full, I grabbed my journal before getting out of bed and scribbled this simple prayer:
"O God, I have so much to be grateful for - all your many gifts.
For what do I have that I did not first receive? Nothing.
You are the provider of all and reign over all. Thank you for everything.
Give me a heart of gratitude and thanksgiving.
Thank you for today - of being with family, in a great home, and getting to eat delicious food.
I have so much to be grateful for."
I closed my journal, with a sense of relief that this simple prayer was sufficient. That I truly can simply say "Thank you for everything" to our perfect Father. Because every. single. thing. comes from Him!
And now, as I am able to sit back and reflect on this week, I am full of more specific gratitudes.
I am thankful for a perfect weekend at the cabin.
- Splitting wood
- Riding the zipline and swing
- Driving the Terryx through the trails
- Watching Georgia football
- Playing bucket golf
- Having a warm fire in the fireplace
- Enjoying beautiful weather
- Sweating through a suspenseful movie
I am grateful for putting being able to put away my phone and spend time with the family!
I am grateful for at Blakely and Teagan's impressive developing sense of humor and playing with them as they enter the wonderful imagination play phase.
I am grateful for a sleepover with them in a king bed. As I was trying to go to sleep, Teagan kept scooting as close as she could to my face, with her head on her stuffed weighted dinosaur and her eyes wide, staring right at me. I couldn't help but crack up laughing every time, wondering what goes through her head.
I am thankful for putting my boots on and punting the green ball for Sadie in the horse rink. The world's greatest dog.
I am grateful that I no longer have to hear Rory ask me when I am going to sleep in the tent at the cabin because I have finally completed my punishment for losing our bet from last years' Georgia vs. Tech game ... But I am not grateful for my night in the tent because I did not sleep at all because I am a scaredy cat and kept hearing noises scuffling in the woods...
I am grateful for getting to go to the Movie Theater and watch Zootopia 2 (major props to the creators of this movie and their attention to detail and incredible creativity!!) I sat there, with a smile across my face the whole movie because I was happy to be at the movie with Teagan and Blake (and the movie was genuinely hysterical.)
But about 30 minutes in, Teagan leaned over and asked, "Is it almost over? It's hurting my ears." And I was quickly humbled, feeling for all you moms who are always so selfless, setting your personal desires aside for your kids.
I am grateful for a family day of cheering for the dawgs! And that Georgia won! Woo!
I am overall grateful for all the time with family the whole week - for my mom constantly serving us, for a delicious Thanksgiving meal, getting to see my Aunt Rhonda and Uncle Tom, and overall just a lot of laughter and simple, down time together!
I am grateful for our 10 year class reunion! We started the day with a campus tour. One of our first stops was the school's library, where we used to go all the time in lower school. As soon as our feet entered the room, it was if we were immediately transported back in time and became kids again. It was a special, nostalgic moment.
I am grateful for a great turnout of our reunion party! Talk about timeless friendships! I grew up with these people and it's really special to be back with them - the people that know your parents and siblings and where you live and who you have so many inside joke memories with.
I hadn't seen some of them since our graduation day, but it was if everything picked up exactly where we left off. They all hold a very dear place in my heart and I am thankful for the love and sense of being known that comes in being in a room all together!
I am grateful for Great American Cookie messing up our order and putting Class of 2025 instead of 2015. We are excited to graduate soon!!
I am grateful for the moment we played Kahoot trivia about our class and it brought back so many memories.
And I am grateful for my OG Unplugger sweatshirt, reminding me it's okay to rest! Did you know that before Unpluggers blog began, in the beginning days (probably 6 years ago??), it was just me and Merry Grace. She sent me this crew neck from some mental health website that kept sending me emails... I wore it every Sunday and would send her a selfie, to remind us both to rest!
But here we are, an expanded Unpluggers crew! And I am so grateful for you all!! And here to remind you all to rest!!!
Because these next couple of weeks will be busy, leading up to Christmas! May we all be intentional to slow down during advent, as we practice waiting. It's not going to come naturally, but may we make the space for it!
