Volume 151: Rest in Timelessness of God
Last week, I went to theaters to see the movie Soul on Fire - the story of John O'Leary (quite the testimony!) - and before the movie began, the trailer for Wicked 2 appeared on the screen.
And it hit me...
Wicked was released only 1 year ago... Last November, it was ALL the hype...
I listened to the album all the time...
Every one had the songs stuck in their head in the Houston office...
I watched videos of the actors to learn more about them...
And now? Seeing the trailer last week was the first time I thought about Wicked in months...
The new iPhone with super zoom.
The #1 seeded team in College Football.
The Summer I Turned Pretty Season Finale.
The new Taylor Swift album.
**Insert your temporary "obsession" here.** There are so many different things that we pour our time, energy and heart into.
These things of our culture are so fleeting... we give them so much of our attention, focus and time yet a couple months later, we move on...
As I sat in the theater, thinking about Wicked, I also thought about how earlier that same day, I had lunch with Adeline.
We talked about the Bible and the hope of the Promises of God.
This moment was not fleeting. It was Spirit filled and one we will both remember because the timing seemed to be ordained.
A deep friendship.
Talking about the Bible.
Not fleeting!
Then, a couple days later, I was blessed to be in the presence of Debbie! It was refreshing quality time with a woman of God who has been such a great example for me for many years now!
In a friendship where conversation comes so naturally, I am grateful for the life-giving, honest and fun conversations that were had. Time with Debbie always leaves me thinking in a new way, with a perspective that is more Christ-centered.
We spent our mornings opening Scripture together and breaking it down, passage by passage.
A deep friendship.
Talking about the Bible.
Not fleeting!
Today, Yellerton finally experienced Rock Creek! All is right in the world! In a friendship that always picks up right where left off, no matter how long it's been since we have seen each other, we enjoyed the "Big Kid breakfast" and then went to church! No better way to begin the Sabbath!
We learned about 1 John together, and then reflected on the sermon on the drive back.
A deep friendship.
Talking about the Bible.
Not fleeting!
A couple of weeks ago, I was sitting a coffee shop in Macon, doing my daily Bible reading, and an old man walked by, pointed to the Bible, and commented "Reading a Best Seller, I see!" We both smiled and then he walked away.
In a culture where the #1 Song, Movie or Show is always changing, I am grateful that the Best Seller never changes.
The Bible is the only thing I go to every single day and yet never close it without learning something or being encouraged. My source of truth and answers for life's biggest questions.
The Bible is completely timeless - never changing or conforming or affected by anything.
And it's the common ground for all of us, Christians, to lean on, point one another to, and learn together in! I am grateful for friendships that are rooted in the Bible! That have such a strong foundation!
Wicked didn't hold space in my mind for a year...
The Bible is something I think about every single day. And have for the last 10+ years.
May we build our lives on the rock, finding rest that God's word is true, never-changing, and alive today.
Speaking of God's word, here's a passage I am working to memorize this week! Join me if you feel so led! I appreciate the small, simple reminders that it gives us.
Do good.
Dwell.
Enjoy.
Take delight.
Commit.
