Volume 146: Rest in Week in Review

Imagine you sign up for a program and these are your teachers...
You'd sign up year after year huh!

Annie F Downs sends out a weekly email and calls it a "Week in Review," where she goes through each day of the week with one thing that was relevant...

Let's give it a go!

MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 15

Proud to wear my neon red backpack always.

I finally had the honor of attending a Simply Social event - Rock Creek's women ministry! Before I moved to Houston, this was something that had been stirring in Adeline's heart for a while, and man, it was so cool to see it in action and such a big showing! Well done, Unplugger Adeline!!

The women of Rock Creek are truly wonderful. Their joy and kindness and authenticity - it's incredibly refreshing to be in their midst. Meeting new faces and enjoying pizza with all!

I was grateful to have sat across Iara. She's a woman who is fully devoted to prayer and reading Scripture, and as a result, she has endless God stories to share.

How do I know she is devoted to prayer???... she wakes up in the middle of the night at 2:30 AM... on purpose... to pray. She gets out of bed, goes to sit at her desk, lights a candle, and prays and reads for about an hour... undistracted time in complete stillness and quiet.

Let's just say I asked a lot of questions and admire such a routine! But don't quite have any intention of replicating it...

TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 16

As I was walking to my car, I noticed a larger package on the steps and thought to myself hmm what is that?? I haven't ordered anything big!

And to add to the confusion.... I opened it and found a bag of fertilizer.

That was it... No seeds... No gardening supplies... No pot... just the fertilizer...

I rechecked that it was addressed to Morgan Maier and the correct address... Not many people have my new address...

It continued to bother me for the rest of the day... All I could conclude was that someone who has heard me continually say "the grass isn't always greener" when I talk about leaving Chattanooga, sent me this fertilizer as a reminder to plant seeds here??? But who???

Well, in an anti-climatic ending, it was Jake, my step dad, on Amazon, and he accidentally clicked my address for his order...

So the mystery was solved, but I was still thankful for the accidental reminder that the grass is greener where you water it. (Here's my unshared reflection from two weeks ago about contentment.)

WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 17

Let's say there's currently a very popular TV series that everyone's watching.

The most consistent and reliable character is a stuffed animal.

Is this TV show worth the time????

THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 18

September 18! A day of high anticipation! The kick off of the year of OLI!

The Welcome Webinar went well and it got me excited for the year to come! Back in my element in the education world.

As I was praying in the morning, I kept thinking about how grateful I am for this opportunity and what a full circle moment it is for me. I have always worked with middle schoolers, but now, here I am, with High School Juniors and Seniors. And yet, it's important to me because those were the two years for me, personally, that redirected the course of my life.

I was very involved during my Junior and Senior year - Student Body President, captain of soccer team, softball team, basketball manager, even did a PLAY! (they made up a character for me in the background ok), AP courses, college applications, friendships, etc.

Yet, more than ALL of that - the most important thing I was doing was beginning to take my faith seriously. I began going to youth every Sunday, attending any Bible Study or activity that was available to me, and getting to know the leaders. And doing all of this alone, no one else in my grade was doing the same.

It led me on a straight path - setting me up for great success at UGA to make amazing friends and get plugged into wonderful ministries andddd work at Camp Ozark!

So my hope in this year, for all the highly involved and studious students in OLI, is that this program would help set their foundation on TRUTH. A truth that will never let them down. A truth that never changes. And a truth that is eternal.

From personal experience, these two years of high school can be highly impactful in setting the direction of life!

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 19

Friday morning, I attended the Faith Driven entrepreneur conference watch party in Chattanooga. I know what you're thinking... Morgan, are you an entrepreneur??? No, no I am not ok. But I am in a learning season and willing to consume different knowledge and see how different groups do things!

The conference theme was Righteous Risk. Another large theme of courage. There was story after story of people who left their current comforts (home, cities, jobs, etc.) to follow the call they felt God put on their lives. And He always showed up and provided.

In a space of stories of courage and something I have been hearing a lot about recently, I felt convicted - Where in my life am I taking a risk??

I'm not sure... I think I am currently in a pretty comfortable season after moving back from Houston. But may I continually be open to what God calls me to, whether in my work, relationships, family, etc. And be courageous in taking risks!

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 20

On Saturday, I accomplished the Dri Tri... quite the challenge! It's encouraging to see how far I've come in my exercise journey. I am extra grateful for OTF because of the accountability. I would have definitely given up on the Dri Tri if I was by myself... But the community and coaches push you in the best way where you realize you really can do more than you think. This day was proof of that!

Also, on this day, I got to meet Peri Olson! She is CUTE!

Well... accidentally... I thought I was beating them home to drop something off but turns out, they were already home! (So @Jenna, may you know you're now not the only one who got a visit from Morgan on the day you returned from hospital!)

SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 21

"And on the seventh day God finished his work that he had done, and he rested on the seventh day from all his work that he had done."

Amen, Sabbath! A day of rest!

Speaking of rest... I woke up at 9 AM this morning 😮 let's just say I'm a little sore from yesterday!

Had a great, warm cup of coffee!

Read Habbakuk!

Went to church!

And now, here I sit, at my chosen Sabbath coffee shop - Velo - because they renovated and added seating while I was gone!

BONUS! BEST CLOTHING CHOICE OF THE WEEK AWARD goes to...
