Volume 134: Rest in Fairness

"We demand the benefit we have endured, but rarely desire our accounts to be reconciled when we run a deficit."

Matthew 20:1-16 - Laborers in the Vineyard

Those who worked one hour paid the same as those who worked 8 hours...

"And on receiving it, they GRUMBLED at the master of the house, saying 'These last worked only one hour and you have made them equal to us who have borne the burden of the day and the scorching heat.'

But he replied, 'Friend I am doing you no wrong. Did you not agree with me for a denarius? Take what belongs to you and go..

So the last will be first and the first last."

For all Jesus's dicisplines, these days, everyon would comment, "what did HE Do to get that role???" A tax collector, seriously???!!! A fisherman??? A betrayer??? Why not a Pharisee??

"The world doesn't revolve around how much we put in, moral or otherwise; it revolves around GRACE."

Fairness.

Something I've found myself continuing to ruminate on this summer...

But it's turned me inward... thinking that I deserve more...

But Jesus was so quick to remind us that life may not be fair..

We are all living our own story - we don't know what one another are going through.

May I keep my head down and do whatever God has in front of me. And not look around, trying to point out things that aren't "fair."

If I got what I deserved.... I would be dead...

We may not get what we think we deserve and thank you, God, for that truth!

Father, thank you that you are just and fair. And thank you for not giving me what I deserve, out of your loving mercy and grace. You are good and you know what's best for us. I trust you. I live to serve you and you alone. Help me to do whatever I have agreed to do with humility and selflessness.
