Volume 102: Rest in Proclamation

Tuesday, November 5th, 2024.

The one day every four years I actually pay attention to the news throughout the day...

Similar to 4 years ago, there was a lot of anxiety surrounding the day...

Everyone sharing their strong opinions...

Everyone believing that if the other candidate won, the country will fall apart...

Everyone divided, sticking to their side...

Election day! Fun one, eh!

Yet, that night, instead of sitting in front of my TV alongside many others in the country, I went to Metro worship night.

There we were, a whole room full of young adults in Houston singing out worship songs:

"Christ our King,
Be enthroned, be lifted high.
Christ our King,
Be forever glorified."

"You are more than able.
Who am I to deny what the Lord can do!
It's easy for you.
Can you imagine, with all of the faith in the room,
what the Lord can do?
And it's gonna happen, just let the waymaker through.
He's gonna move."

"I've witnessed your faithfulness
I've seen you breath life within.
So I'll pour out my praise again
You're worthy, God, you're worthy of it all."

"I'll take you at your Word.
If you said it, I'll believe it.
I've seen how good it works.
If you start it, you'll complete it."

And it was in the middle of singing out these lyrics that it hit me... a feeling of PEACE.

That on this night, outside of the room we were in, our country was a bit chaotic. But we were unified as one body, proclaiming the truths of who Jesus is.

For me, this was a beautiful, tangible reminder of the supernatural peace that comes when we are bold in proclaiming the truth of the gospel.

Proclaiming who God is - our perfect, one true King.
    A miracle worker.
    Worthy of our praise.
    True to His Word.

So whether it's worries of returning to work,
Or 3 AM wake ups to feed a baby,
Or the house flooding,
Or family members declining in health,
Or entering into unknowns of engagement season,
Or feeling that God doesn't care about your desires,

May we stand firm on the truth we know to be true! That as children of God, we have a peace available to us that is greater than the anxieties of this world!

In addition to worship, I also escaped the worries of the world this week thanks to Jenna trusting me to take her perfect children to the ZOO!

The two goals for the day were:
1. Never rush the girls
2. Have fun.

And man, what a wonderful day!

We may have only looked at animals 28% of our time there, but we had a 45 minute lunch break for lunchables, drank icees, rode the merry go round, searched for the monkeys, and fed the giraffes.

May we allow kids to set the pace more often! To slow down and just be in the moment! And not always thinking about the next thing.

Here's to Jenna.... not everyone would trust us....
