Volume 95: Rest in Unpacking
Well, the summer ended!
I spent a week in Georgia!
And now I am officially a Houston resident!
During my week in Georgia, I was greatly blessed with getting to see our very own Unplugger, Adeline! And we were able to do our daily Bible Recap reading together, taking turns to read the chapters out loud.
It just so happened that our reading for that particular day was Jeremiah chapter 29. Of course, most are familiar with verse 11 - "For I know the plans I have for you..."
But before that verse, Adeline called attention to verses 5-7, which state -"Build houses and live in them. Plant gardens and eat their produce. Take wives and have sons and daughters."
This was God's call to the Israelites as they were entering into exile.
God wants them to settle down during exile?? Even though it'll only be 70 years and then they'll just move again??
It would have been really easy to just get by in Babylon - to see it as a temporary place.
It would have been really easy to be frustrated at God and lose sight of His promise for the plans He has in the future.
It would have been really easy to only focus on what is ahead after 70 years.
Yet, God calls the people of Israel and Judah to UNPACK and settle.
To be where they were. And be all in.
"The grass is greener where you water it."
"Go where you are sent. Stay where you're put. Unpack. And give what you've got until you're done."
Right now, for me, I often get caught up thinking about my current season of life - single, in my late 20's, with nothing holding me down anywhere.
It's a vulnerable place where I feel insecure, desire more, and want some sort of stability. It can be challenging to feel content.
Yet, may I trust God.
May I buy into what He's doing and be confident that He has a plan for me and IT IS GOOD!
May I trust Him in the unknowns, in the lack of clarity.
And rather than seeking answers, may I just BE. In His presence; glorifying Him in all that I do.
As Jeremiah later states, "For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope."
God has me exactly where He wants me, for a purpose. From Athens to Greenville to Chattanooga and now Houston, His plan remains the same.
And my purpose also remains the same - to glorify God in all that I do and love others as He has loved me.
So here's to Houston! I may not know how long I will be here and it's still all new for me. But I am called to unpack. To be here and be present. To make the most out of the opportunities I am given!
May I not miss out on what God has in store for me here!
While a simple concept, it's always good for me to think through/write out my "rule of life" - what's important to me and what i want to be about in my day to day life. Every summer, my routine gets pushed to the side. So as I am entering a new season, I have taken some time to realign with what's important to me, who I want to be, and hopes for Houston.
