In a recent episode of the Mockingcast Podcast (everyone listen because Adeline loves them!), they talked about the importance of PLAY. Releasing that inner child within us.
Often we do things because they lead to an end result. For example, you exercise so that you stay in shape and have more energy. You rest so that you can work hard. You study so that you get good grades.
However, they emphasized that when it comes to play, we don't play to get something in return. We simply play because we need it in our lives.
Earlier this week, Maryanna, AC and I had "softball practice" and went through all parts of good ole travel ball days of practice.
Warming up on one knee.
Throwing, fielding, stealing, and hitting.
And a run around the bases to finish.
It was FUN. Pure fun. We laughed and laughed and didn't have a care in the world.
In addition to softball practice, we've had many moments of play this week!
Good ole competitive Mario Kart!
Riding in the back of a pickup truck in a field looking at cows!
Playing soccer all together!
And other moments too! We may not "play" in our lives for a specific result, but it sure does provide refreshment to the soul and a lot of joy!
In this busy season, as we begin to prepare for staff coming to camp, may we remember to play! To not take life too seriously and find joy in the small moments!
We also got to play at Charlie and Carol's incredible home again - as they welcomed all 25 of us into their house and fed us. The ultimate display of hospitality and generosity shown by strangers who just want to serve others!
Before he prayed over the meal, Charlie said to all of us, "Thank you for taking time out of your day to come spend time with us and help us eat our food!"
WHAT! Thank US????
What a humble position of his heart.
We were given homemade bread and ice cream! Played rubber band game and 2 truths and a lie! And were told to make ourselves at home!
May we all one day give back as we have received. (I need to start learning how to cook!!)
