Volume 33: Rest in Jesus

**Current view while writing this blog. A stillness and quietness that is almost eerie...

Today is the last day of the gospel of John! Meaning the last day of our first round of reading the gospels through, taking on up to one chapter a day.

Today is the last day of camp before staff arrive (only 4 but still coming!!)! Meaning the last day of the true off season.

What perfect timing!! As we have journeyed through the gospels, studying Jesus's life and the way He served and interacted with the people around Him, I have no choice but to approach this summer differently. Because man, Jesus is AWESOME

I feel full of gratitude, especially as the last verse of John reminds us that even all of the miracles and parables and sermons that we have the privilege to read and study are not a full representation of everything that Jesus did on earth.

John 21: 25 "Now there were also many other things that Jesus did. Were every one of them to be written, I suppose the world itself could not contain the books that would be written."

Let's be honest...my brain can't even fully comprehend the accounts we do have... how am I to imagine everything else that He did!

This summer, my attempts to become more like Jesus shall be put to the test...

May I welcome interruptions, just as Jesus took the time to heal the woman with the bleeding disorder when he was on the way to Jarius's daughter.

May I exemplify patience, just as Jesus answered ignorant questions from His disciples and had to repeat Himself over and over again.

May I extend grace, just as Jesus forgave the adulterous woman even though the crowd was against her.

May I be quick to remember the truth, just as Jesus rebuked everything the enemy tempted Him with in the wilderness with Scripture.

May I trust and submit to my Father, just as Jesus did all the way up until death.

And may I love my neighbors (the ones that are easy to love, but more importantly, the ones that are hard to love), just as Jesus loved the lepers and women and Samaritans and Pharisees and tax collectors and all the others.

Amen!!! I am ready for round 2 of the gospels!!! How beautiful it will be to continue to learn more and notice new things! Isn't it wild that we will ALWAYS be learning and can never graduate from studying Jesus's life!

I have a confession.... today, Yellerton and I did work on the Sabbath.. What kind of work, you may ask? Well, we had ruts in our yard and Gene asked us to flatten them... So there we were, barefoot, stomping in the mud, doing our best to even out the ruts...

I can say with confidence, it may be one of the oddest jobs I'll ever do on the Sabbath, but what Gene asks, Gene receives! Because here's the thing... I am currently here at camp, sitting at a picnic table, reading and writing on this beautiful Sunday. But I'm not alone. Gene is out here, and I literally just watched him move a trailer 4 feet closer to a tree by himself (we don't ask why). And also picked up a piece of trash on the all purpose court.

I am willing to claim, with confidence, that if we tried to write down every random job Gene has done around camp, without anyone ever knowing, the office sure wouldn't be able to hold all of the binders! Thank you, Gene, for his hard work and constant service in the smallest ways. I do not know any other human who pays as much attention to detail.

But don't worry, in addition to doing 5 minutes of work today, we also went to church (nothing beats these small town churches... we were celebrities!!!) and played baseball!

What could beat a beautiful Sunday after church, doing fielding and hitting practice. Well, many nights in pre-camp actually do come close! One of the greatest perks of working for a summer camp is your coworkers all like to PLAY!

Nights of soccer or pickleball or sitting by a fire or watching a play or cooking steaks or watching a movie or supporting a marriage (!!!) or even helping move and unpack boxes at the store. I have a lot of gratitude for the people I work with, that it really does become a family.
