Volume 9: Rest in our Giver

This week, Connelly mentioned that he does his "thanks and praises" in the morning and his prayers at night, so that he can start the day with gratitude.

In the middle of the week, I realized that my journal entries in the morning were full of a lot of worries and complaints, rather than joys and gratitudes...

And it hit me... As I seek the Lord for His rest, I need to first give thanks! I've read before that "the DNA of joy is gratitude." And I believe that is true. So here's to starting each day this week with my thanks and praises!

Jesus is the prime example of someone who prioritized gratitude. So often in Scripture, we see Him "giving thanks" before he acts. If the Son of God can take time to give thanks, I can too!!

Recently, I have been finding a lot of rest in the song "Life is a Gift" by Housefires. The lyrics are so incredibly simple, yet full of truth and important reminders.

"Every breath is a gift from youWe breathe deep your mercy,We breathe deep your grace,Lord we take you inAnd you will live and move and have our being'Cause life is a gift and the giver is goodLife is a gift and the giver is goodTo see my life as a gift from heavenEvery breath, something you've givenI receive, I receive,Everything you have for meLife is a gift and the giver is goodTo learn how to sing even when I don't feel itTo learn to hold of what I've been givenI receive, I receiveEverything you have for me LordLife is a gift and the giver is goodLife is a gift and the giver is good"

Here's to finding rest in remembering that EVERYTHING in this life is a gift! My challenge for myself this week is to wake up every morning with the mindset that life is a gift and the giver is good.

Quote that had me thinking this week:

"Be a problem solver, not a problem adder" OOF that got me. I want to be more mindful of living in the moment and not worrying about what is to come. As I look ahead, may I have the mindset of making it work!
